As long as I can remember, I have loved photography - especially pictures that document, that tell some kind of story.

I first remember taking pictures when I was about five. My parents took me - in the early fifties - to Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Virginia Beach VA. I had a little Brownie camera and I wanted to take pictures of everything - and I did. I never really stopped, and when I graduated from high school, I used my collected gift money to buy my first 35mm film camera - a Honeywell Pentax - in the summer of 1967.

After leaving college, I worked for a few years as a photojournalist for the newspaper in the town where I grew up - in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, the anthracite coal regions. Upon moving to Philadelphia, I stumbled into what became a career in the publishing industry, a career that's lasted 36 years. But I never stopped taking pictures or lost my passion for photography.

I have many photographic interests, and most of them are documentary in one way or another. When shooting people, I do best in capturing the most candid moments in people's lives. I've traveled many places in my life, and my cameras have been with me on those many roads here in the U.S. and in my beloved Republic of Ireland.

Some of my heroes with cameras include Dorothea Lange, Annie Leibovitz, Weegee, William Eggleston, David Douglas Duncan - but the two photographers who have influenced me the most are Andreas Feininger and the incomparable Walker Evans.
